PAXAR Develops RFID Solution For Throttleman

Published 26th March 2007

PAXAR sets the stage for the well-known Portuguese clothing brand Throttleman to improve their retail supply chain with an RFID solution...

Paxar, a leader in RFID and supplier of innovative labelling solutions for retail chain stores, hypermarkets and fashion brands for more than 80 years, introduces the new RFID solution developed for the Throttleman brand of men’s, women’s and children’s wear. Paxar is working in collaboration with Sybase and CreativeSystems in order to develop the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solution suitable for Throttleman who benefits from the synergies of three specialists in RFID technology. Paxar will take charge of the printing and the supply of the RFID labels, while Sybase provides the software solutions, and CreativeSystems controls the support and the integration of the hardware.

Created following the establishment of the RFID Solutions Centre, and developed through the excellent competencies of the three collaborating companies, this new solution called, RetailID, is a platform RFID solution adapted specifically for the retail industry. It is divided in three different areas:

• Hardware – which comprises the physical elements of RFID platform: tags, passive or active, hand-held readers, fixed antennas and readers, portals, reading tunnels, etc. A wide range of equipment is available depending upon the requirements of each company;

• Integration - creates the link between the hardware and the RetailID solution. Thus, the RFID Anywhere (specialist software) manages and filters the information from the physical elements and integrates with the application itself. At the same time, this middleware, the only one of its type in the market, is compatible with various messaging solutions, making it possible to link with existing ERPs or other softwares; and

• RetailID Solutions - this is the set of business functions related to the management, control and the tracking of products. Among other benefits this element enables:

 Control, checking and tracking of products in the stores and warehouses;
 Inventory count in real time in warehouses and stores;
 New trial channels of merchandising in the store, like the Magicmirror™; and
 Improvement in service levels from careful analysis of the processes and the optimisation of the same.

Paulo Castro, Branch Manager at Paxar Portugal, is pleased with this collaboration: "We know that at the moment one of the key areas for improvement in the retail sector revolves mostly around receiving finished goods. Normally the merchandise is grouped together and sent in containers by sea. The companies are not currently equipped to receive, to check and to re-order tens of thousands of pieces in a short space of time. For those companies it is fundamental to improve efficiency and to extend the product diversity available by speeding up the process of receiving merchandise. We are convinced that RFID technology resolves this and other problems that can arise through the supply chain ".
