UK’s first accelerated learning RFID course set to be a hit with early IT adopters...

The Training Camp has launched the country’s first accelerated learning course for radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in response to the growing demand for IT professionals with RFID skills.

The adoption of RFID is rapidly gathering pace and posed to explode in 2006, despite the relative infancy in deployment of RFID projects. Global consultancy Frost & Sullivan predicts that spending on RFID-related hardware, software and services will exceed £3.4 billion in 2007[1], with the retail, healthcare and logistics industries leading the way. This influx of cash into the technology looks set to create a surge in demand for qualified individuals.

The Training Camp’s RFID+ professional course can be completed in 4 days and maps to RFID+, the certification developed by industry with the global technology association CompTIA. To date, the course has attracted interest from both new and experienced candidates seeking to take advantage of the RFID ‘gold rush’. Qualified RFID specialists can expect to earn at least £55 per hour.

“We believe today’s market will spawn hundreds of systems integration companies with RFID capabilities. As a result, thousands of individuals with the knowledge in this technology will be required to meet this demand,” says Matthew Poyiadgi, CompTIA’s European regional director. “A vast number of companies are under RFID mandates, and the RFID+ certification will enable companies to determine the ability of their employees and partners to deliver guaranteed RFID solutions, in as short time as possible.”

The RFID+ course instructs students in the installation, configuration and maintenance of RFID hardware and software. The course includes topics such as: interrogation zone basics, testing and troubleshooting, standards and regulations, tag knowledge, design selection, site analysis, RF physics, and RFID peripherals.

“This is a very exciting time for the IT sector with RFID technology on the crest of a wave,” says Robert Chapman, co-founder of The Training Camp. “IT professionals who take the opportunity to add RFID+ to their CV now will be riding high when demand for the technology really kicks in.”
